As Charles Widmore explains in "The Life and Death of Jeremy Bentham", Tunisia is the "exit" to the Island, and seen in previous episodes, that exit's location on the Island is the Frozen Donkey Wheel. At some point in the past, one of the DHARMA Initiative's polar bears must have been used to turn the Donkey Wheel, sending that polar bear to Tunisia.
