Nah...it was Kelvin.
Sweet Always Wanted To know That :)
i dunt understand how do you know des did it?
L O S T, It's on the commentary of the DVD Extras.
Here's an article about the "real" painter, Jack Bender.
Jack Bender article
They're really going to have to work to come up with something logical that would explain how Thomas and Des have the same, exact style of painting. Especially, since we know that Thomas is Fenry's son. :-) I guess this might put the whole "Fenry is Radzinski" speculation to bed too.

perhaps thomas and desmond are brothers....twins and desmond is obviously the bad twin (as well as the dumb one).
henry holland, where are you getting that Thomas is Fenry's son?
the "real" painter is Jack Bender but in the dvd extas it says desmond did the mural
where in the extas does it say this DarkUFO?
On the Extras disk it is on the "Phase 3 - HATCH" section.
I think that this Mural is what Desmond sees in his dreams while he is in the Swan. Here's a clear picture of it http://photos1.blogger.com/blogger2/6380/3581/1600/hatchpainting.0.jpg Notice that the man he drew, is a black preist. Look at his collar. This says to me that Desmond saw Yemmi, Ecko's brother, in his dreams. Just like Locke and Ecko. Maybe we will see it in Desmonds next flashback.
Very interesting.
Yeah that guy is definitely a priest. Could also be Eko. But he only has 1 eye though...Maybe that refers to the glass eye the tailies found in the other station. And there is a boat there, a woman...could she be the girl that Eko saw in Australia about the miracle? The one that almost drowned? Would explain the water. Or maybe it's Penny.
I count 3 houses, I wonder if that refers to the 3 big, rich families in Lost; Widmore, Hanso and Paik.
I think whoever painted it needs some art therapy. ;-) It would be fascinating.

the woman looks alot like Danielle to me, and the black priest looks like eko's brother. Maybe the houses are the Others houses in their little town. It kinda looks like that yellow thing is phone with a curly cord..wasnt the phone those guys had in the last ep of s2 a big yellow phone? well it is a stretch but hey..its LOST
Also, on the left side, the water seems to cut through a large yellow mass. On the very top is a group of people. Could this be 'Otherville'?
I feel that Desmond was having future visions and that we are just now seeing what is about the come.

Just passing through, but the yellow field to the right, with the gridwork... That to me, look likes the Yellow Brick Road. Even more so, now that we are in the 'Post-Not in Portland' era.
The idea of someone painting the future is ridiculous. Come on this is Lost not a cheap imitation.
it looks like the water runs all the way through the painting, showing a scene above it, which is nighttime, and a scene below it, which is daytime. then we see a big arrow pointing up, out of the water, with the word "out" next to it...showing the way "out?"
