Hurley takes this paper that she has written the numbers on and asks her directly why she has them and where she got them. She explains that her team intercepted a transmission repeating the numbers. They were searching for the place of transmission and that's how she landed crashed on the island. She agrees with Hurley that they are cursed.

In Live Together Die Alone we find out that the Magnetic properties of the island build up to enormous amounts. You see metalic objects being crushed and items being drawn towards it.

Answered in "Numbers": Leonard was a soldier whose assignment was to listen transmissions in the Pacific Ocean, he was partner of the woman's husband Hurley visited in Australia.
