As we found out in The Incident they have been living with Vincent in the jungle.

Bernard was on his way back from the bathroom when the turbulance hit and strapped into a seat or the turbulance hit and he quickly left the bathroom and strapped in. Either scenario seems plausible to me and would put him in the back of the plane.

Bernard and Rose were on their honeymoon and Bernard brought Rose to a faith healer named Issac who lives in Australia.
