As seen in "Because You Left", Daniel and the other people on the Zodiac (which retroactively includes Frogurt) were close enough to the radius of the Island (Daniel says this) to have come along with the Island when it moved, and they then join the rest of the Losties on the beach.

As seen in "Because You Left", the safe place was a safehouse that Sayid had concocted in a motel room, including a tape on the door, and handy knives in the dishwasher with which to stab people by slamming them down on it.
